Yep, all my American friends had to hand in their passports at the door. JUST KIDDING! I have been in the US for the 4th July almost every year since 2017 but always up at summer camp in NY where nothing is 'real life' so I was soooo excited this year to be at our new home in Florida I invited all our friends from the neighbourhood over and then realised I had no idea what I was supposed to do to celebrate!
Thankfully it seems a pool day and a bbq is generally good enough and since me and most friends are toddler parents no need to stay up and do a fireworks display!
I decorated the house in red, white and blue and questioned why America chose the same colours as the UK after fighting for their freedom? Threw some burgers and hot dogs on the grill and my mum and I made a selection of homemade British snacks and desserts for people to try. The sausage rolls and the shortbread biscuits were the most popular. We also made a punch bowl full of Pimms which is an ICONIC summer drink in the UK that nobody had heard of despite the fact that I bought the liquer from the store down the street - you really must try it! I'll do a recipe on Tik Tok soon...
I was supposed to be vlogging the whole event but I forgot how onerous hosting is, I don't think I even managed to text my out of state friends Happy 4th let alone film ours...oops, maybe next year! But I can assure you everyone had a great time, the weather was perfect for dipping in and out of the pool with a cold drink, we played games in the garden all afternoon and nobody left hungry! These are the only 3 photos from the entire day...stolen from my mum (hence the poor quality :P)
What did you get up to? Do you tend to spend the 4th with friends or family?
Catch you next week! x
